FAQ
Do I need a PresetSync Cloud subscription?
No.
Every PresetSync desktop licence includes Cloud Folder synchronization. You can use a compatible cloud-synchronized folder from another provider. We have tested it with Dropbox, iCloud, and One Drive, Synology NAS, and simple over the network Shared Folders. Use the trial if you are using something different.
Google Drive is not supported.
PresetSync Cloud is an optional managed service.
Is PresetSync itself a subscription?
No.
The desktop application uses a perpetual licence. Personal licences cover up to three authorized computers, while Studio licences cover up to ten.
Can I synchronize between Mac and Windows?
Yes.
PresetSync is designed for mixed macOS and Windows environments. Each computer can map a collection to the appropriate local preset folder for that operating system.
Does PresetSync work with every plug-in?
PresetSync works with compatible file-based presets and preset folders.
Some applications store presets inside proprietary databases, protected system locations, or cloud-only accounts. Compatibility may depend on how the application stores and exposes its preset data.
Can I synchronize sample libraries?
PresetSync is designed primarily for presets, banks, templates, and other small creative files, not multi-gigabyte sample libraries.
PresetSync Cloud limits individual synchronized files to 100 MiB.
What happens when I reach my computer limit?
You can deauthorize an old computer from the application, your PresetSync account, or through support, then authorize another machine.
What happens when I reach my PresetSync Cloud computer limit?
You can deactivate an old Cloud-authorized computer from your PresetSync Cloud account and then authorize another.
Cloud authorization is separate from desktop application activation.
What happens if my Cloud payment fails?
PresetSync Cloud provides ten days of full access following a failed automatic renewal.
After that period, cloud uploads and downloads are disabled until the subscription is restored.
Will cancelling Cloud delete my local presets?
No.
PresetSync never removes your local preset files merely because a Cloud subscription expires.
How long is expired Cloud data retained?
Expired PresetSync Cloud data is retained for 90 days.
Resubscribing during that period restores access. After 90 days, the synchronized files and repository data are permanently deleted.
Can several studio employees use one Studio account?
Yes.
The Studio plan is designed around authorized studio computers rather than individual employee seats. A Studio licence supports up to ten authorized computers.
Are updates included?
All PresetSync 1.x updates are included with the perpetual licence.
A future major version may be sold as a paid upgrade.
What is the difference between Cloud Folder and PresetSync Cloud?
Cloud Folder stores the synchronization repository in a folder you select, such as a folder synchronized by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. It does not depend on the PresetSync backend and is included with every desktop licence.
PresetSync Cloud is the optional managed service. It provides hosted storage, account management, and synchronization without requiring you to configure another cloud-storage provider.
Can I use a custom folder or network drive?
Yes.
You can select another accessible folder or shared-storage location as a Custom Cloud Folder. Reliability and delivery between computers depend on the storage system responsible for synchronizing or sharing that folder.
Do all computers need to use the same local preset path?
No.
Each computer maps a collection to its own local preset folder. This allows the same collection to synchronize between macOS and Windows even when the applications store presets in different locations.
Manually created collections must be mapped separately on each computer.
What happens if the receiving computer does not have the plug-in installed?
The collection remains visible but unmapped.
PresetSync will not guess an unsafe location. You can install the relevant application and then select its preset folder, or map the collection to another suitable folder manually.
What happens if two computers change the same preset?
PresetSync preserves user content before resolving the conflict.
It does not silently overwrite different versions. When necessary, it creates a clearly named conflicted copy or asks you to choose which version or path to keep.
What happens when I delete a synchronized preset?
After PresetSync confirms that the file was intentionally remove, not merely unavailable because a drive or folder is disconnected, it publishes the deletion and places the preset in Trash.
Cloud Folder repositories retain deleted preset data for at least 30 days unless you explicitly empty Trash. PresetSync Cloud uses its hosted Trash-retention policy.
Can I restore a deleted preset?
Yes.
Restoring preserves the preset’s identity and never overwrites an existing file. If its former location is occupied, PresetSync restores it to a safe alternative path.
What happens if an external drive or synchronized folder is unavailable?
PresetSync treats a missing folder, drive, or volume as unavailable, not as a request to delete its contents.
Synchronization resumes after the location becomes available again.
What happens when I add a computer that already contains presets?
PresetSync compares the existing local files with the synchronized collection before applying changes.
Matching files are reused without unnecessary transfer. Local-only files are added, and differing files are preserved as conflicts rather than silently overwritten.
Can I remove a collection from only one computer?
Yes.
“Remove from This Mac/PC” stops mapping that collection on the current installation. It does not delete the local preset files or the synchronized collection.
The first release does not include a collection-level “Delete Everywhere” action.
Can I move from Cloud Folder to PresetSync Cloud later?
Yes.
Migration is staged and validated before PresetSync Cloud becomes authoritative. Until the final changeover, Cloud Folder remains active. A successful migration does not move or delete your former Cloud Folder repository.
How much storage does PresetSync Cloud include?
Personal Cloud includes 10 GB of current synchronized data and supports three active Cloud computers.
Studio Cloud includes 25 GB and supports ten active Cloud computers.
Retained internal versions do not count toward the current logical storage quota.
Individual synchronized files are limited to 100 MiB.
Is there a free trial?
Yes.
The Personal desktop application has a seven-day trial that begins when you choose “Start Trial.” It is local to that computer and does not include PresetSync Cloud.
How quickly do changes appear on another computer?
PresetSync is designed to converge safely, but it does not promise an exact completion time.
Timing depends on file stability, whether PresetSync is running, network availability, and in Cloud Folder mode, the external storage provider.
Can I use the application while offline?
Yes.
An activated installation has a non-expiring, installation bound offline licence receipt, so the desktop application and local files remain available without an internet connection.
PresetSync Cloud requires internet access. Cloud Folder does not depend on the PresetSync backend, although synchronization between computers may depend on the selected folder provider or shared-storage system.
Internet access is also required for purchase, permanent activation, and deactivation.
